Started on September 26, 2013, by local artist Donnabelle Casis, FNO has attracted over 1,000 lovers of art, music, dance, film, performance, and local businesses to each event. FNO is an unprecedented event in the history of the hamlet.
As a former Seattle, Washington resident, Donnabelle appreciated the vibrant and dynamic arts community of the city. After living in Florence since 2004 and meeting so many local artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers, she had an idea to establish Florence as an epicenter of creative energy. In August of 2013, Casis approached area artists and businesses to come together to showcase how much the town had to offer.
The first event in September of 2013 drew crowds of over 800 people. The second edition on May 1, 2014, was well-attended while the venues and offerings expanded. In November 2014, Donnabelle stepped down from producing and coordinating the event but the event continued for another two years under the leadership of a local organization.
After a two-year hiatus, Florence Night Out returned in 2019, with Donnabelle convening a group of local leaders to help plan a lively night of art, food, and music in Florence. The event was–our first ever block party–was a huge success and attracted nearly 5,000 to Florence center.
